In 1800,the U.S.A. capital was moved from Philadelphia to Washington DC. Gabriel Prosser, an enslaved African American blacksmith, organized a slave revolt intending to march on Richmond, Virginia. The conspiracy was uncovered and Prosser and a number of the rebels were hanged.
